Iceland has been at the top of my ‘places to visit’ list for a very long time and I can finally cross it off! It turns out, however, that there was so much to do and so little time that I just have to go back soon.
Our highlights were seeing those magical northern lights everyone dreams about. Seeing those emerald flairs dance around and light up the Icelandic sky made standing in the freezing cold worth it! And the night we spent at the Blue Lagoon’s Silica Hotel was the most relaxing experience I’ve had in a very long time.
The hotel itself is very small and very quaint with only a few rooms and a tranquil ‘spa hotel’ atmosphere that you get lost in the moment you arrive. The hotel comprises top to bottom of simplistic Scandinavian decor. I have always appreciated Scandinavian decor for its minimalism and functionality. Set against the breathtaking Blue Lagoon and surrounded by endless lava fields, the approach to design at Silica makes you feel like you’re on the edge of the world. I especially loved details such as the open fireplace and chunky blankets that made the shared spaces such a cosy refuge from the bitter cold.
